Estos factores se suman a los impactos ya existentes de la agricultura, la expansi\u00f3n de los asentamientos, la contaminaci\u00f3n, la gesti\u00f3n inadecuada de residuos y la pesca insostenible. Estas presiones combinadas provocan la muerte regresiva de los arrecifes de coral y la p\u00e9rdida de la cubierta protectora de manglares, lo que afecta especialmente a las comunidades costeras que dependen en gran medida de los recursos y servicios de estos ecosistemas. Adem\u00e1s, el deterioro de la calidad del agua y de las playas tiene impactos m\u00e1s generalizados, afectando el turismo y la pesca, sectores fundamentales para las econom\u00edas de los pa\u00edses caribe\u00f1os. Para aumentar la resiliencia de los ecosistemas costeros, las comunidades y la econom\u00eda en general, el proyecto restaurar\u00e1 los arrecifes de coral, los manglares y la vegetaci\u00f3n ribere\u00f1a, y apoyar\u00e1 medios de vida alternativos y sostenibles basados en los servicios ecosist\u00e9micos costeros, as\u00ed como mejoras en las pr\u00e1cticas pesqueras y agr\u00edcolas. Se espera que esto mejore el bienestar socioecon\u00f3mico tanto a corto como a largo plazo.
