15 de diciembre de 2020 El Fondo de \u00c1reas Protegidas de las Bahamas (BPAF) y el Fondo de Biodiversidad del Caribe (CBF) firmaron un Acuerdo de Asociaci\u00f3n el 19 de noviembre de 2020. El acuerdo significa una fuente de apoyo a largo plazo para BPAF para facilitar la concesi\u00f3n de subvenciones en conservaci\u00f3n sobre el terreno y en las aguas de las Bahamas.
\nLa presidenta del BPAF, Sra. Kelley Bostwick-Toote, expres\u00f3 su satisfacci\u00f3n por la firma, se\u00f1alando que \u201cel CBF ha demostrado ser un socio comprometido y esencial desde su inicio. El BPAF est\u00e1 ahora preparado para asumir su papel como financiador clave de la protecci\u00f3n ambiental y la gesti\u00f3n de los recursos naturales en las Bahamas en un contexto ambiental cada vez m\u00e1s complejo. Esta alianza permitir\u00e1 al Fondo formar y fortalecer alianzas estrat\u00e9gicas, as\u00ed como realizar intervenciones m\u00e1s inmediatas en la lucha por el sustento de nuestra gente, la preservaci\u00f3n de nuestro pa\u00eds y brindar oportunidades a las personas y organizaciones que deseen unirse o apoyar los esfuerzos del BPAF para lograrlo\u201d.
\nEl Fondo de \u00c1reas Protegidas de las Bahamas (BPAF) se estableci\u00f3 en 2014 con el objetivo general de garantizar una financiaci\u00f3n sostenible a perpetuidad para la gesti\u00f3n de las \u00e1reas protegidas de las Bahamas.
\nIn congratulating BPAF on their achievement, Mr. Yabanex Batista, CBF\u2019s CEO remarked that \u201cthis Partnership Agreement is a significant step for BPAF and CBF for long-term sustainable funding\u201d. He went on to note that, \u201cBPAF has already established itself as an implementor and facilitator in conservation projects in the islands through a CBF grant supporting The Bahamas\u2019 recovery from Hurricane Dorian\u201d. Executive Director of BPAF, Karen Panton, stated that the signing of the Partnership Agreement is a significant milestone for the Fund and comes at an opportune time when environmental groups, reeling from the economic fall-out from COVID-19, are struggling to fund urgent actions across our islands\u201d
\nEl CBF es un fondo paraguas con una estructura flexible que implementa soluciones innovadoras para la movilizaci\u00f3n de recursos a nivel regional mediante diversos instrumentos financieros. Actualmente, el CBF gestiona aproximadamente USD 125 millones a trav\u00e9s de sus programas de Financiamiento para la Conservaci\u00f3n y Cambio Clim\u00e1tico: Adaptaci\u00f3n Basada en Ecosistemas.
