Building directly on the critical findings of its first phase, this specialized marine research project continues to monitor the vulnerable dolphin populations in the Sea of Abaco. Following the extreme environmental shock of Hurricane Dorian, long-term monitoring is required to understand the prolonged ecological impacts on marine mammals. Executed by the Bahamas Marine Mammal Research Organization with a $13,069 grant, Phase 2 focuses on tracking continued survivorship, reproductive success, and behavioral adaptations of the local dolphin pods. By utilizing these apex predators as biological indicators, the project provides ongoing, high-level data regarding the overall health and recovery of the surrounding marine ecosystem.
