This project focuses on Punta Cana and Verón and engages hotels, the international airport, shopping areas, local businesses, and surrounding communities to implement a comprehensive waste management system. Through circular economy practices and improved waste collection, sorting, and recycling, the initiative aims to significantly reduce marine and coastal pollution while strengthening sustainable tourism practices in one of the Caribbean’s most visited destinations.

The Grupo Puntacana Foundation (FGPC) is a non-profit organization committed to protecting the environment, conserving natural resources, and improving the well-being of local communities. FGPC focuses on creating opportunities for residents in the tourism areas and the Southeast Reefs Marine Sanctuary (SAMAR), while promoting innovative solutions to preserve the region’s unique ecosystems. For over 30 years, the foundation has tackled environmental challenges through pilot and demonstration projects, many of which have been successfully scaled and replicated nationally and internationally. With a focus on practical, results-driven approaches, particularly around tourism and development, FGPC addresses issues ranging from solid waste management and coral reef conservation to the protection of endangered species and the creation of private ecological reserves. Through its work, the foundation serves as a model for sustainable practices that inspire positive action both locally and beyond.
