Ecosystem Based Risk Reduction in Coastal Areas of SamanĆ” and La Altagracia Provinces of the Dominican Republic

This project used community-led rehabilitation of coral reefs, mangroves, forests, watersheds, and riparian areas to increase climate resilience, reduce flood risks, and protect biodiversity in SamanĆ” and La Altagracia. Its ridge-to-reef approach combined coral restoration, sustainable agroforestry, live barriers, community participation, livelihood incentives, and partnerships with local businesses.
Objetivos clave
- Restore selected coral reef, mangrove, forest, and riparian ecosystems
- Reduce erosion, flooding, and climate risks through a ridge-to-reef approach
- Scale community-led coral and mangrove restoration practices
- Support sustainable agroforestry, livelihood diversification, and local business participation
