Biodiversity Conservation and Resilient Livelihoods in Coastal Areas Threatened by Climate Change, Intensive Tourism, Traditional Fishing and Infrastructure Development in National Parks and Protected Areas of Montecristi, Dominican Republic and Three Bays National Park, Haiti
Dominican Republic and Haiti
This bi-national project protected the continuous coastal-marine corridor formed by the Montecristi protected areas in the Dominican Republic and Three Bays National Park in Haiti. It combined mangrove and wetland restoration, coral reef and beach management, protected-area governance, livelihood support, and a Measurement, Reporting and Verification system. A Microfinance for Ecosystem-based Adaptation framework linked financial support to environmentally responsible practices.
Objectifs clés
- Restore mangroves, wetlands, coral reefs, dunes, and beaches across the bi-national corridor
- Strengthen protected-area management, monitoring, and adaptive governance
- Support resilient fishing, agriculture, tourism, and other community livelihoods
- Operationalize Microfinance for Ecosystem-based Adaptation and bi-national knowledge exchange
