This project will prevent plastic litter from entering the marine environment in Dominica by turning locally generated HDPE and other plastics into valuable, market-ready products through a circular economy business model. By establishing a waste-to-product facility, the initiative creates a complete value chain from local collection to transformation and sale through domestic and international markets. The model shows that plastic recycling can be both economically viable and community-driven, delivering environmental protection, local jobs, and a scalable solution that can inspire similar efforts across the Caribbean.

Objectifs clés

  • Establish a local waste-to-product facility and value chain
  • Create jobs and community-driven circular economy solutions
  • Build a scalable model that can be replicated across the Caribbean

Focus sur l'écosystème

Communautés impliquées

This project is fostering sustainable livelihoods in the community of Roseau.

Organisations de mise en œuvre

Organisation chef de file : The Great Plastic Bake Off (GPBO) is an innovative green-tech organization turning plastic waste into opportunity for communities across the Caribbean and beyond. Through its mobile “FUSE Kitchens,” GPBO works hand in hand with local partners to collect plastic waste and transform it on site into durable, weather-resistant building materials. By building local waste-management networks and co-creating products that respond to real community needs, GPBO helps reduce plastic pollution while supporting sustainable livelihoods. Its flagship composite material, EkoDuro, gives new life to mixed plastic waste, offering a resilient, locally made alternative to conventional construction materials and advancing circular economy solutions that benefit both people and the planet.
