Our Work in St. Kitts and Nevis
St. Kitts and Nevis, a captivating island duo in the Caribbean, boasts a remarkable tapestry of marine life. Reefs teeming with colorful fish, majestic sea turtles, and vibrant coral ecosystems create an underwater paradise. This biodiversity extends beyond the waves, with resident and migratory birds, lush mangroves, and unique plant life blanketing the islands.
The Caribbean Biodiversity Fund (CBF) is proud to partner with St. Kitts and Nevis to ensure the long-term health of these irreplaceable ecosystems. Our collaborative efforts focus on:
Sustainable Marine Management
The CBF champions sustainable practices for managing St. Kitts and Nevis' marine resources. This ensures the long-term health of these vital ecosystems and the livelihoods of fishing communities that depend on them.
Biodiversity Conservation
The CBF supports initiatives that conserve St. Kitts and Nevis' remarkable biodiversity, both on land and at sea. This includes protecting critical habitats and combating invasive species threats.
Building Local Capacity
The CBF recognizes the importance of freshwater for both human and ecological well-being. We support projects that ensure clean and sustainable freshwater supplies for Jamaican communities.

Key Achievements in St. Kitts and Nevis
This critical milestone, achieved with CBF support, established a dedicated funding stream for vital conservation initiatives throughout the islands. The SCNCF ensures long-term financial sustainability for protecting St. Kitts and Nevis' unique biodiversity.
The formalization of our collaboration in 2020 solidified our commitment to working alongside St. Kitts and Nevis. This agreement established a framework for coordinated and impactful conservation efforts, maximizing the impact of our combined resources.
The CBF's dedicated financial resources have empowered local partners in St. Kitts and Nevis and enabled the implementation of critical projects that safeguard the islands' irreplaceable ecosystems.
Extensive Network of Protected Areas
These protected areas safeguard a significant portion of St. Kitts and Nevis' diverse land ecosystems, providing vital habitat for native species.
These areas play a critical role in protecting crucial marine habitats like coral reefs and seagrass meadows.
This area represents a commendable portion of St. Kitts and Nevis' landmass (62 km2) being under formal protection, ensuring the conservation of these vital ecosystems.
While the marine protected area (408 km2) percentage is lower, the CBF is actively working with partners to develop a comprehensive strategy for marine conservation.
