The Caribbean’s rich biodiversity is not just a source of beauty, it’s the lifeblood of the region. At the Caribbean Biodiversity Fund (CBF), we understand the critical role healthy ecosystems play in the Caribbean’s well-being.
That’s why we’ve established these core goals to guide our project selection and implementation:
We directly support initiatives that conserve and restore marine and terrestrial habitats, fostering a healthy and biodiverse Caribbean.
By building robust funding mechanisms, we ensure long-term financial stability for continued conservation efforts.
Our focus here is on securing sustainable financial resources specifically for the preservation of our vital marine and coastal ecosystems.
The Caribbean’s breathtaking landscapes and vibrant ecosystems are essential for the region’s health, beauty, and economic well-being. Here at the Caribbean Biodiversity Fund (CBF), we’re dedicated to safeguarding this natural treasure. But our impact goes beyond just protecting individual species or habitats.
Through our targeted initiatives, we’re fostering a ripple effect that benefits the Caribbean in three key ways:
We protect and restore a quantifiable number of marine and terrestrial habitats, fostering a healthier and more biodiverse Caribbean. This translates to measurable improvements in mangrove coverage, coral reef health & fish populations.
By strengthening the Caribbean Sustainable Finance Architecture, we create long-term funding mechanisms, securing a minimum of $5 Millions of annual resources for continued conservation efforts across the region.
We collaborate with local partners, fostering knowledge sharing and building capacity for long-term environmental stewardship. This empowers not just one or two, but multiple communities to become active participants in protecting their environment for generations to come.
On-the-ground, partner National Conservation Trust Funds (NCTFs) and Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA) Facility grantees implement projects for the preservation of the marine and terrestrial ecosystems in 14 countries within the insular Caribbean. The NCTFs additionally lead the grantmaking process and drive programs for the protection of biodiversity within their countries.
As a regional institution, the CBF is an implementing partner for donors to invest in conserving the Caribbean’s natural resources and rich biodiversity. The organization’s flexible structure allows for the implementation of innovative solutions for resource mobilization at the regional level through a range of financial instruments.
