Integrated Coastal and Marine Ecosystems Management – JELEM Koray – Jesyon Entegre Litoral ak Ekositem Maren

Part of the Green Pearl Programme in Haiti, this project aspires to increase the resilience of coastal communities in the Corail-Cayemites bay to ecosystem degradation and disaster risks in the face of climate change. Mitigating impacts of storm surges and hurricanes in low-income rural areas, JELEM’s intervention will contribute to perpetuate naturally provided coastal protection and fisheries’ maintenance by enhancing local management of marine natural resources. Focusing on socio-ecological entities of coral reefs, mangrove forests, and the fishing communities of the key biodiversity area of Corail, Pestel and Cayemites in the Grand Anse Department, the project will help sustain the delivery and viable use of essential ecosystem services.

Based on an integrated landscape restoration and management approach, the project encompasses seascape restoration and community-based development. Biodiversity conservation in the face of climate change will be achieved by simultaneously supporting ecosystem-based sustainable livelihoods and disaster prevention and preparedness.
