Jamaica

DurationFebruary 2020 – February 2023
Total Project BudgetUSD 1,229,600.00
EbA Facility GrantUSD 990,000.00

The KHEAM project strengthened the resilience of low-lying Kingston Harbour communities to flooding, storm surge, and hurricanes through mangrove restoration, hydrological rehabilitation, community-based action, and waste reduction. More than 10,000 seedlings were planted, 265 hectares of mangrove ecosystems were improved or managed, and over 300 residents were trained as environmental wardens.

Key Objectives

  • Restore and monitor mangrove ecosystems around Kingston Harbour
  • Reduce solid waste pollution through community recycling and environmental stewardship
  • Build community skills in conservation, ecotourism, circular economy, and environmental monitoring
  • Generate research, policy, and geospatial knowledge to support long-term ecosystem management

Ecosystem Focus

Mangroves, wetlands, coastal waters, and associated habitats within Kingston Harbour.
