
Laura Teixeira
Technical Support Officer, CORE Project
Laura Teixeira is a dedicated environmental professional with over seven years of experience
managing sustainable development projects across the Caribbean region. She most recently
served as Project Coordinator for the Caribbean Child Projects under the GEF ISLANDS
programme at the Basel Convention Regional Centre for the Caribbean (BCRC-Caribbean),
where she led multi-country initiatives focused on chemicals and waste management and
capacity building in Small Island Developing States. Her expertise extends to project
development, execution and monitoring, stakeholder engagement, workshop facilitation and
fostering regional collaboration. She has worked with government agencies, private sector
partners and civil society across 15 Caribbean nations, building a deep understanding of
regional environmental challenges and opportunities. She also has unique experience working
with rural and gold mining communities in Guyana during the development of their National
Action Plan under the Minamata Convention on Mercury. Laura has worked with multilateral and international institutions such as the Global Environment Facility (GEF), United Nations
Environment Programme (UNEP), United Nations Industrial Development Organization
(UNIDO), Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), Food and Agriculture Organisation of the
United Nations (FAO) and the Secretariats of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions
(BRS) and the Minamata Convention. She is a dual citizen of Grenada and Trinidad and Tobago and is passionate about biodiversity conservation, community development and environmental
sustainability.
