Our Work in Antigua & Barbuda
An internationally recognized biodiversity hotspot, Antigua and Barbuda is particularly known for its marine and coastal environment. The islands and their waters support a number of globally and regionally important habitats and species. The Caribbean Biodiversity Fund supports projects that substantially contribute to healthy marine and terrestrial ecosystems, natural and human communities adaptive and resilient to change, and sustained ecosystems for future generations.
In March 2023, the CBF joined partners in Antigua & Barbuda to mark the successful completion of the “Enhancing Marine Ecosystem Management in the Nelson’s Dockyard National Park” project, implemented by the National Parks Authority with support from the Marine Ecosystems Protected Areas (MEPA) Trust. Over three years, this CBF-funded initiative strengthened the conservation of the Park’s unique and sensitive marine ecosystems—critical to local livelihoods, biodiversity, and the country’s status as a world-class heritage tourism destination. The project culminated in the unveiling of a detailed 3D diorama showcasing the vibrant interconnection between the Park’s ecological and cultural assets, a powerful educational tool made possible through the creative collaboration of local artists and conservationists.
CBF actively invests in projects that contribute to the following key objectives in Antigua & Barbuda:
